My take on Bangalore's new International Airport.
IT & BT honcos are describing this as the beginning of the END of Bangalore as the most preffered destination for companies. But i don't buy this opinion, till now all the developments have been in the southern side of the city so i think this airport will pave the way for further development of the city.
Southern part of the city or as called the IT&BT corridor is totally crammed up. Growth in these area in last 6 to 8 years have been phenominal and is too unrealistic to think that government would anticipate this type of growth and provide the infrastructure.
For a long time now, companies have been talking about creating sattelite towns around the city to ease up the traffic and create newer destinations for growth . But the fact is that until there is a strong reason for companies to do so, they will not do it. Bangalore International Airport is that reason and an opportunity for companies to review there expansion plans and move in and around the airport. So that bangalore gets a new ease of life.
"Noone likes a change " -- even if it is for the good. Hopefully we start accepting the fact soon and get used to it.

Obviously it does not signal the end of Bangalore's stronghold in the IT sector. But, one thing is that, 2 is alwys better than one. The HAL and BIA can work out a revenue sharing model and let short distance flight operate from the HAl airport, thereby a happy to all solution can be achieved. Imagine travelling on road for 2 hours to reach the airport for reaching a place like chennai, where the actual trvel time is less than 2 hours by flight!!!
